Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Kno is a study companion app for nursing students that turns your study materials into AI-generated study guides, flashcards, and practice quizzes, and lets you study with friends. This policy explains what information Kno collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.

2. Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and a unique account identifier. If you create an account with email and password, your credentials are stored securely on your device in the iOS Keychain.
• Study content you upload. Lecture notes, PDFs, and images you upload are processed to generate study guides, flashcards, and quiz questions. Text extracted from your uploads is sent to an AI service for processing.
• Study activity. Quiz scores, flashcard progress, study streaks, XP, and Arena match results, used to power your progress tracking and social features.
• Social profile. If you use social features, your chosen username, display name, avatar emoji, semester, school (optional), clan tag, and study stats may be visible to other users depending on your privacy setting.
• Messages. Messages you send in study groups are stored so they can be delivered to group members.

3. What we do NOT collect

• No advertising identifiers or tracking across other apps or websites.
• No location data.
• No contacts, photos, or files beyond what you explicitly upload.
• We never sell your personal information.

4. How your information is used

• To generate personalized study guides, flashcards, and quiz questions with AI.
• To sync your social profile, friends, challenges, study groups, and Arena matches.
• To show your progress, streaks, and achievements.
• To keep the app secure and prevent abuse.

5. AI processing

Text from your uploaded study materials and your AI Tutor conversations are sent to a third-party AI model provider through a secure proxy to generate responses. This content is used only to produce results for you and is not used to build advertising profiles.

6. Where your data lives

• On your device: study guides, flashcards, quiz history, personal stats, and local account credentials. Downloaded guides work offline.
• On our servers: social profile, friends, feed posts, challenges, study group messages, and Arena match data.

7. Your privacy controls

• Set your profile to Public, Friends only, or Private in Profile & privacy settings.
• Appear offline whenever you choose.
• Remove friends, leave groups, or decline challenges at any time.

8. Data retention and deletion

Local data is deleted when you delete the app. To delete your social profile and server-side data, sign out and contact us using the app's support channel, and we will remove your account data within 30 days of a verified request.

9. Children

Kno is intended for nursing students and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Security

We use industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Local credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Kno after changes means you accept the updated policy.
